To help people improve their lives through an educational process using scientific knowledge focused on identified needs and issues.

Ohio State University Extension is broadly recognized throughout the state as a premier educational network.  It is a dynamic organization strengthening individuals, families, and communities in partnership with the federal Extension System.

OSU Extension is a dynamic educational entity that partners with individuals, families, communities, business and industry, and organizations to strengthen the lives of Ohioans. As Extension educators, we:

  • Focus on critical economic, environmental, leadership, and youth and family issues.
  • Engage people in lifelong learning.
  • Apply knowledge and practical research to the diverse needs and interests of Ohioans in rural, suburban, and urban communities.
  • Extend resources of The Ohio State University
  • Recruit and develop volunteers to multiply Extension's efforts while developing their leadership potential.
  • Enhance teamwork through networking and connectedness.
  • Link youth, family, and community needs to scholars in Ohio and nationwide.
  • Teach with cutting-edge strategies using new technologies and approaches.

The OSU Extension is the outreach arm of The Ohio State University.  It helps fulfill the land-grant university mission of educating the citizens of Ohio.  OSU Extension interprets knowledge developed at Ohio State and other land-grant universities.  Extension educators are the ones who teach you to use the information to solve problems -- to make your life better.  No matter which county you visit, you can find people who are helped by a variety of OSU Extension programs.

OSU Extension groups its programs into four major areas.  The actual educational programs cut across these groupings and often stretch the conventional definition of each.  Some examples include the following:

  • 4-H Youth Development:  career exploration, leadership and self-esteem development, and "at-risk" kids
  • Agriculture and Natural Resources:  farming, gardening, environmental resource management and protection
  • Community Development:  attracting new businesses, keeping old businesses, recycling and composting, job training, and leadership development
  • Family and Consumer Science:  family life, nutrition, home-based businesses, and budgeting

OSU Extension in Medina County is supported by financial contributions made by Medina County Government.  We acknowledge and greatly appreciate their continued support.  Visit the Medina County Government pages at  http://www.co.medina.oh.us
